Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive review of the impact of managerial gender diversity on firm strategy and performance, focusing on Chinese listed companies. Drawing upon Upper Echelons Theory, this review systematically synthesises high-impact studies published between 2010 and 2025 through a structured screening process based on Web of Science, Scopus, and ScienceDirect databases, to evaluate how female representation in top management, teams shape corporate outcomes. The analysis explores gender as a cognitive proxy for risk aversion and ethical sensitivity, while considering the moderating roles of ownership structure and Confucian cultural norms. The findings highlight that while financial outcomes remain subject to institutional contingencies, gender diversity consistently promotes superior Environmental, Social and Governance performance, innovation efficiency, and strategic stability.
