Abstract
This paper investigates the level and socio-demographic determinants of digital financial literacy among adults in 15 European countries. It draws on data from the most recent (2023) survey conducted by the International Network of Financial Education (INFE) of the Organization for Economic Development (OECD), which includes large, representative national samples and standardized data collection. A series of statistical analyses was conducted to assess the extent to which adults using digital financial products and services in the countries observed meet the minimum required level of digital financial literacy and whether digital financial literacy scores vary significantly across groups defined by gender, age, educational attainment, income level, and size of settlement. The results indicate that the overall level of digital financial literacy is relatively low across the countries examined, is unevenly distributed and falls below the OECD average. Of the variables analyzed, educational attainment and income level showed a statistically significant impact on digital financial literacy scores, with moderate effect sizes. Gender, age, and size of settlement did not show a significant influence. Hungary ranks in the lower half of the observed countries. The findings underscore the need for continued efforts to improve digital financial literacy across Europe
